TPWD Sets Public Scoping Meeting to Gather Input on Crabbing in Aransas Bay

ARANSAS COUNTY- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is seeking public input on potential changes to draft proposed rules impacting the use of crab traps in parts of Aransas Bay. TPWD is considering allowing the recreational use of crab traps from docks/piers in currently restricted sections of the shoreline in Aransas Bay.

Safely Make Your Holidays Merry and Bright at a Texas State Park, THC Historic Site

AUSTIN— Although holiday celebrations look a little different this year, Texas State Parks and the Texas Historical Commission State Historic Sites are hosting more than 50 events across the state to help bring in some holiday cheer. Thirty-two Texas State Parks and six State Historic Sites are presenting Christmas themed scavenger hunts, self-guided walks and virtual events.

TPWD Wildlife Biologists Confirm Rare Mountain Lion Sighting Near Rowlett

AUSTIN — Despite the rarity of mountain lion sightings near urban areas, a recent mountain lion sighting on private property in Rowlett has been verified by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists. Biologists suspect that this mountain lion is most likely a transient juvenile male that is just passing through the area as it searches for a home range.

Four Texas Parks and Wildlife Films Featured in Wild Texas Film Tour

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will have four short films featured in this year’s virtual Wild Texas Film Tour starting on Dec. 1. The films spotlight experimental paddlefish stocking in Caddo Lake, Black Skimmers along the Texas Coast, research surrounding the Swift Fox in the Panhandle Plains and the diverse bayou habitats throughout the city of Houston.

TPWD Asks Public to Report Rabbit Mortality Events

AUSTIN — In April, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) received test results confirming that Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV) was found in several species of wild rabbits in Texas. Since June, TPWD, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) have not confirmed any new cases in wild rabbit populations in Texas. However, TPWD is seeking input from the public, especially hunters, asking that they report any dead rabbits found this fall and winter.

AUSTIN – November marks the beginning of a winter tradition in Texas for anglers of all ages across the state as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department begins stocking thousands of rainbow trout November 25. The easy to catch rainbow trout are delicious table fare and can be found on many restaurant menus.
