McKinney Falls State Park Reopens Smith Visitors Center

AUSTIN— After closing its doors in 2013 due to extensive damage from the Halloween flood, the Smith Visitors Center at McKinney Falls State Park is now open. To commemorate the reopening of the building, the park will be hosting a series of guided programs on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Texas Game Wardens Request Public’s Help in Pronghorn Poaching Case

AMARILLO— Texas Game Wardens are requesting the public’s help to identify individuals responsible for killing five pronghorn between Friday, Sept. 24and Sunday, Sept. 26. The bodies were discovered one mile north of Interstate Highway 40, just east of Adrian. The carcasses were dumped on private land with the skull and horns missing.

TPWD Sets Public Meeting Oct. 14 to Gather Input on Thermal Refuge Closure Areas

AUSTIN- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is seeking public input on the draft proposed rules impacting thermal refuge closure areas at a public meeting being held on Zoom Thursday, October 14 at 6 p.m. These rules allow the TPWD Executive Director to close thermal refuge areas during freeze events to protect marine resources as well as effect the criteria used to close and re-open these areas to angling.

Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site Hosts 27th Annual Interpretive Fair Oct. 16, 17

EL PASO—  Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site invites the public to come celebrate its 27th Annual Interpretive Fair Oct. 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event will be free, and all park entry fees will be waived for the weekend.

TPWD, GBRA to Host Lake Dunlap Environmental and Habitat Restoration Workshop

NEW BRAUNFELS – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries division and project partner Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority (GBRA) will provide an environmental and habitat restoration and enhancement workshop to Lake Dunlap residents on October 16. The event will now be held at the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority River Annex Building from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

New Nature Center Opens at Ray Roberts Lake State Park Oct. 9

VALLEY VIEW – Ray Roberts Lake State Park is excited to announce the grand opening of a new Nature Center at the Johnson Branch of the park Saturday, October 9. The grand opening event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., beginning with a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony followed by tours of the facility. The park is also waiving entrance fees for this special event.

Biologists Remind Landowners and Hunters to Be Mindful of CWD Ahead of Deer Season

AUSTIN – With the opening of deer season on the horizon, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists are asking that hunters and landowners throughout the state be mindful of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) as new cases of the disease have been discovered in individual locations within multiple counties throughout Texas.
