AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission (TPW) recognized a Texas Parks and Wildlife commissioner, a game warden and a wildlife biologist during today’s meeting for their contributions and efforts supporting the agency mission.
AUSTIN – With Memorial Day and summertime temperatures is rapidly approaching, Texans will be getting out on the water. Now more than ever, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is urging boaters and paddlers who hit the water this summer to do their part to fight back against aquatic invasive species, such as giant salvinia and zebra mussels, threatening Texas lakes.
AUSTIN – In conjunction with National Safe Boating Week set for May 22-28, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reminds Texans to be safe and vigilant this upcoming Memorial Day weekend and all summer long by following the law and taking basic safety precautions while on the water.
AUSTIN — With fatalities on Texas waterways up 40 percent in the first quarter of 2021, Texas boaters are being urged to take boater education before heading to lakes and rivers this Memorial Day. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is launching a “Rock Your Boat” campaign urging boater education to help reduce fatalities and injuries on Texas waterways.
AUSTIN – To help facilitate the conservation of Texas’ most vulnerable species, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) recently updated the list of Texas Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN). The list is a core element of the Texas Conservation Action Plan, and is a guiding framework for Texas to access more than $50 million annually for SGCN-focused habitat conservation, education and recreation under the proposed Recovering America’s Wildlife Act.
ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is pleased to announce a return to full operational status. Due to the public health situation, TFFC, located in Athens, had limited operations and visitor services since March 2020. During the pandemic, in anticipation of reopening, TFFC personnel utilized the partial closure to focus efforts on renovations and upgrades to enhance the visitor experience.

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is pleased to announce the Texas division of Wildlife Forever’s Fish Art Contest winners for 2021.
AUSTIN – During National Invasive Species Awareness Week (NISAW) May 15-22, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) wants to help Texans learn more about how invasive species affect our state’s natural resources and how everyone can help in slowing their spread. In honor of NISAW, May 15 is also designated National Clean, Drain, Dry Day to promote boater behaviors to prevent the spread of invasive species.
AUSTIN – Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been discovered in deer breeding facilities in both Matagorda and Mason counties. This marks the first positive detection of the disease in these counties.
