HOUSTON —At a time when people in big cities are becoming increasingly disconnected from the world of nature and the outdoors, Take Me Outdoors Houston on Oct. 2 at Discovery Green will offer Houston’s 2nd annual free, family-oriented festival of the outdoors.

Deadline to Enter Big Time Texas Hunts is Oct. 15

AUSTIN — Break out your hunting “bucket list” and enter the Big Time Texas Hunts for a chance to check something off. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding Texas hunters the deadline to enter this year’s Big Time Texas Hunts is Oct. 15. Winners will be called before the end of October to give them time to make their hunting trip preparations.

Sul Ross Receives TPWD Grant to Address Pronghorn Decline

ALPINE — In an effort to investigate an alarming and unexplained decline of pronghorn in far West Texas, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has awarded a 3-year $111,210 grant to the Borderlands Research Institute for Natural Resource Management at Sul Ross State University.

Landowners Reminded Licenses Needed to Operate Hunting Leases

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department would like to remind landowners that a hunting lease license is required for certain hunting operations, and that those licenses must be renewed yearly.

TPWD Sets Waterfowl Seasons; Outlook Bright

SAN ANTONIO – The stage is set for what could be one of the better waterfowl hunting seasons in recent years and Texas hunters will be able to take full advantage with a 74-day season and six bird daily bag limit. The 2010-11 late season migratory proposal was finalized by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its Aug. 26 public meeting.

KERRVILLE – A new, $1.8 million conference center to be dedicated Aug. 27 at the Kerr Wildlife Management Area will provide Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with a quality venue for presenting habitat management and ecological programs to thousands of landowners, students and researchers.
