Black Bears Are On The Move In Texas

TYLER, Texas — In the dim light before dawn, it’s hard to tell what that dark shape is under the feeder 100 yards from your hunting blind. It’s probably a feral hog stealing corn you bought for deer to supplement native forage. But make a positive identification before you pull the trigger; that hog-like shape could be a black bear.

State Parks Host Meetings Regarding Feral, Exotic Species

TPW Commission Adopts 2008-2009 Hunting/Fishing Regulations

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, at its March 26 meeting, adopted changes to hunting and fishing regulations designed to create additional recreational opportunities while effectively managing the state’s natural resources.

Wildlife, Infrastructure Spared by Massive Fire on Chaparral WMA

AUSTIN, Texas — A massive wildfire that torched 95 percent of the 15,200-acre Chaparral Wildlife Management Area spared much of the wildlife on the state’s premier public hunting site, according to initial findings during aerial surveys by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists.

Texas Hunting Accidents Continue Decline In 2007

AUSTIN, Texas — Hunting accidents and fatalities in Texas continued their long-term decline in 2007, still down below three accidents per 10,000 hunters in recent years. That compares to about 12 accidents per 10,000 hunters in 1966, the year records began.

Texas-National Archery in the Schools Program Instructor Course Offered in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will offer a free Texas-National Archery in the Schools Program (TASP) Basic Archery Instructor Trainer (BAIT) Course May 29–31, which includes a Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) Course on the third day, May 31, at one of Texas A&M University’s G. Rollie White Stadium gyms here.
