AUSTIN- Three winning images have been selected as the best of more than 1,300 entries in the Texas Parks and Wildlife 2014 State Parks Photo Contest. The contest called for people to submit entries of playful moments at a Texas state park.

The new Instagram category brought in more than 650 entries and Flickr received 728 photo entries.

The winners are:

  • Flickr entrants aged 18 years and older: Tommy Johnson for his photo “New Day” taken at Monahans Sandhills State Park.
  • Flickr entrants aged 17 years and younger: Collin Hile for his photo “Arched Tree” taken at Stephen F. Austin State Park.
  • Instagram: Jake Kazmirski for his photo from Caddo Lake State Park.

“My kiddos are incredibly excited. I, on the other hand, am still in a state of disbelief, “said Johnson, winner of the 18 and over category on Flickr. “This is a big honor for me. I caught the photography bug about a year ago and this really gives me some confidence"

The contest ran from March 1- April 15 on TPWD’s Flickr page and on Instagram. The winners, as well as the winning photos, were chosen in May based on composition, creativity, and overall impression, as well as how well the photos illustrated the connection between people and the outdoors.

The winners were notified last week and will claim the prize of a new HERO3+ Silver Edition GoPro© video camera from Whole Earth Provision Co., valued at $300.
