AUSTIN— For the third year, Texas state parks are partnering with the “Get to Know” organization for its annual Youth Arts Contest.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Youth Arts Contest encourages young people to get outside and share their outdoor experiences using art, writing, photography, video and music. Prizes include digital cameras, camcorders, art supplies and more.

The contest runs through Nov. 1 and youth 19 and under can enter works of art inspired by the natural beauty in any state park. The contest is part of TPWD’s Arts in the Parks program, and aims to motivate Texans of all ages to connect with the outdoors through art. This year, the program is expanding to parks across the state, with art workshops for kids and adults scheduled throughout the year.

“We are really excited to see our park staff embracing arts in our parks,” said Chris Holmes, director of Interpretive Services for the State Parks Division. “The natural and cultural setting of state parks offers inspiration for all sorts of creativity. We saw some incredible and touching work by children last year. We can’t wait to see this year’s entries.”
