Texas Parks and Wildlife Thanks Veterans for their Service

AUSTIN – This Veterans Day, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department thanks its more than 250 employees who served in the military, as well as all active and retired military men and women, for their service to our country.
“We are grateful to those within the TPWD family who have served so honorably in the military, both at home and abroad,” said TPWD Executive Director Carter Smith. “Their commitment to service and the knowledge and skills they bring to the agency are invaluable to fulfilling our mission to protect and conserve the natural and cultural resources of the state.”
The famed Battleship Texas, which served in both World Wars, will commemorate Veterans Day by hosting a talk from Christopher Kelly, co-author of “America Invades: How We’ve Invaded or been Militarily Involved with almost Every Country on Earth.” Visitors are invited to tour the ship, which was part of some of the most significant naval battles of the 20th century. Regular entry fees are $12 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
Government Canyon State Natural Area, which is normally closed on Wednesdays, will be open for day-use activities in honor of Veterans Day. Park hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Regular park entry fees—$6 for adults and free for children 12 and under—still apply.

TPWD would like to remind all active duty military members who are Texas residents that they are eligible for a free Super Combo Hunting and All-Water Fishing Package. The package includes a resident hunting license, a resident fishing license and all five state stamp endorsements, which includes the archery, freshwater fishing, saltwater fishing with a red drum tag, upland game bird and migratory game bird stamps.
