Goose Island Reopening for Overnight Visitors Starting March 1

ROCKPORT— After months of recovery efforts from Hurricane Harvey, Goose Island State Park is reopening its gates to overnight guests beginning March 1.
“We are excited to welcome campers back to Goose Island State Park just in time for spring break,” said Robbie Merritt, Interim Superintendent of Goose Island State Park. “We hope that visitors will come back to the island and enjoy the coastal breeze during their stay at the park.”
Camping areas open for reservation include Lantana Loop, Bayberry, Warbler Way and Live Oak Circle.
Visitors to the park will have an opportunity to go birding in the picnic area, launch from the boat ramp, enjoy the bird viewing platforms and visit the Big Tree estimated to be centuries old. Additionally, the Redfish Road area of the island is open for fishing and kayaking in the bay.
The fishing pier area and the Trout Street camping area of the island remain closed due to significant hurricane damage.
