San Jacinto Battleground, Battleship Texas Reopen to the Public May 8

LA PORTE— The San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site and the Battleship Texas State Historic Site will be reopening to the public May 8 after the recent chemical fire in La Porte.
“After being away from the site for over six weeks, the staff are excited to again have the opportunity to share this site and our Texas heritage with the public,” says William Irwin, Superintendent of the San Jacinto State Historic Site Complex.
The reopening comes ahead of the D-Day 75th anniversary commemoration event aboard the Battleship Texas June 8. The event begins at 8 a.m. with the recognition of special guests including former Battleship Texas crew members and D-Day Medal of Honor recipients. Following the ceremony, the ship will host a D-Day exhibit, special access to the navigation bridge, living history reenactors and vintage radio recordings throughout the day. All activities are free with general admission to the ship.
The Battleground is open daily from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. The Battleship Texas is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Entrance fees for the ship are $12 for adults 12-65 years old, $6 for seniors 65 years and older, $3 for children 5-11 years old, and children 4 years and under are free.
