Prospects Good for Dove Season in Texas

AUSTIN – Most folks don’t usually look forward to Mondays, but Texas dove hunters will be making an exception this year. The traditional September 1 dove season opening day in the North and Central Zones falls on Labor Day Monday.

AUSTIN – Texas game wardens will conduct their third virtual patrol ride-along via Twitter on Monday, September 1 during the opening day of dove season.

Hunting, Fishing Licenses on sale Aug. 15

AUSTIN — New licenses for the 2014-15 hunting and fishing seasons go on sale Friday, August 15. The current year Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except year-to-date fishing licenses) will expire Aug. 31.

National Dove Hunter Survey Findings Released

AUSTIN – About 250,000 mourning dove hunters harvest 5 million mourning doves on an annual basis in Texas – making the Lone Star State the nation’s leader in both the number of hunters and harvest. The findings of a National Dove Hunter Survey will help managers better understand the opinions of this important hunting community at a national level.

AUSTIN – After a rise in calls about backyard bird illness, experts are advising people to regularly clean and maintain backyard feeders and birdbaths, use fresh feed and be cautious about storing feed for long periods. They also suggest landscaping with native plants that provide natural food and use less water.
