Dixon Water Foundation Receives 2017 Leopold Conservation Award® for Texas

AUSTIN – The state’s top land conservation award typically goes to a private ranch, but this year the honoree is a North Texas-based nonprofit which manages not one, but six different ranches, all of them devoted to demonstrating how good land management using cattle grazing can lead to more and better water for people and wildlife.

Lone Star Land Stewards: Bringing Back the Best of Texas

AUSTIN – They restore vital woods and waters, help bring back diverse wildlife ranging from rare species to popular game animals, share their knowledge with neighbors, and open their gates to youth groups and researchers. They are recipients of the 2017 Lone Star Land Steward Awards, bestowed each year by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the nonprofit Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.

Blue Mountain Peak Ranch Named 2016 Leopold Conservation Award Winner

AUSTIN – When Richard Taylor and his late wife, Sally, moved to Texas in 2001 and bought land in the heart of Mason County, they knew their work was cut out. The land, which had been overgrazed and overworked for years, was in desperate need of restoration. Fifteen years later, the Taylors’ dedication to habitat and wildlife conservation has earned their Blue Mountain Peak Ranch recognition as the 2016 Leopold Conservation Award recipient for Texas.

Texas Landowners Earn Lone Star Land Steward Awards for Conservation Efforts

AUSTIN – Every year, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation, honors landowners from across the state with the Lone Star Land Steward Award for their contributions to natural resource conservation and management. This year, TPWD will honor seven winners from six ecologically diverse regions of the state as some of the best examples of sound habitat management.

Lone Star Land Steward Program Celebrates 20th Anniversary

AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) honors the conservation contributions of private landowners each year with its Lone Star Land Steward Award. This year, seven winners representing several of the state’s diverse ecological regions will join the distinguished roster of landowners who have received this recognition. Over the past 20 years, nearly 200 landowners across Texas have been lauded for conserving more than 3 million acres of fish and wildlife habitat.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Applauds “Land Stewardship: Providing Water for Texans” Week April 26-May 3

AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has partnered with the Association of Texas Soil & Water Conservation Districts (ATSWCD), Texas Wildlife Association, and Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB) to highlight the important connection between voluntary land stewardship and sustaining water availability. The statewide campaign of “Land Stewardship: Providing Water for Texans” is the theme of this year’s Soil & Water Stewardship Week, to be celebrated April 26 through May 3.

AUSTIN – A Lufkin woman has been named the 2014 recipient of the Leopold Conservation Award, the state’s highest honor for private land conservation, for her family’s ecological transformation of a sizable piece of East Texas land in Nacogdoches County.
