Free Entrance to Texas State Parks Nov. 12 in Honor of Veteran’s Day

EL PASO – With over 10, 000 years of history, Hueco Tanks State Park and Historic Site is filled with historical and cultural gems left behind by early hunter gatherers and Native Americans. Experience two days of Hueco Tanks history come to life at the 23rd annual Interpretive Fair Oct. 21-22.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold a meeting this week to hear public comments on the development of the golf course area at Bastrop State Park. The golf course, which closed in 2015, will be repurposed for conservation and recreational uses.

AUSTIN — In support of Texas’ second statewide Pollinator BioBlitz, organizations and sites around the state will soon be hosting a variety of events to get people outdoors to observe pollinators of all types in yards, natural areas, gardens, parks and community centers. Of course, you don’t have to visit a particular site to participate, your very own yard or green space will do.
FORT DAVIS— The 39 guest rooms at Indian Lodge at Davis Mountains State Park will close for renovation starting Sept. 5 until early 2018. The Black Bear Restaurant and the assembly room will remain open throughout the closure.
WACO— Thanks to the efforts of several partners, the half mile long log jam that has clogged a portion of the Leon River near Mother Neff State Park has been cleared.
AUSTIN— The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department graduated the 61st Texas game warden and state park police officer cadet class Aug. 1 at the Texas State Capitol. The class included 34 game wardens and seven state park police officers.

AUSTIN— Heat exhaustion is one of the most common maladies that park rangers encounter during the summer months, and with temperatures soaring to scorching heats well above 90 degrees, Texas State Park staff are encouraging park visitors to follow basic heat safety precautions to stay safe on the trail.
