Managed Lands Deer Program Enrollment is Open for the 2023–24 Hunting Season

AUSTIN — Enrollment in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Managed Lands Deer Program (MLDP) is now open for the 2023–24 hunting season. Open enrollment for the MLDP Conservation Option runs April 2 through June 15; the Harvest Option opens May 1 and ends Sept. 1.

Toyota ShareLunker Program Enjoys Another Exceptional Collection Season

ATHENS — The 2023 Toyota ShareLunker program delivered an exciting collection season for the third year in a row. Anglers contributed 18 Legacy Class ShareLunkers from four different lakes across the state, but the spotlight shined brightest on O.H. Ivie in west Texas. The waterbody produced a record-breaking 15 Legacy Class fish in 2023, following back-to-back years of 12 each during the 2021 and 2022 collection seasons.

Turning ‘Lights Out’ Across Texas Helps Birds Migrate Safely

AUSTIN — Spring is the peak time for bird migration through Texas, but the bright lights of cities and towns can confuse birds as they fly to their northern breeding grounds. Texans are encouraged to help our winged friends on their journey by turning “Lights Out” at night across the state from April 22 through May 12.

Angler Recognition Program Shines Spotlight on Fishing Excellence

ATHENS – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Angler Recognition Program (ARP) exists to recognize fishing excellence in Texas, and to further that purpose, TPWD staff recently completed a revitalization initiative for the program. The ARP was established in 1971 and maintains the fish record lists for all public and private waterbodies across the state, inspiring anglers to get outside and enjoy the water.

City Nature Challenge Returns to Texas for the Eighth Year

AUSTIN — The City Nature Challenge is back in full force for the eighth year. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), through the Texas Nature Trackers program, invites all Texans to participate Friday, April 28, through Sunday, May 1, in a friendly competition between 15 Texas metropolitan areas. Everyone is invited to explore nature in their immediate surroundings: outside their front doors, in their yard or anywhere nature is found and can be safely and responsibly explored.
