Deadline Approaching for Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Nominations

ATHENS—You  have until February 29 to nominate an individual or organization that has made a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in Texas to the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.

Angler Lands Toyota ShareLunker 526 from Lake Austin

ATHENS—Lake Austin gave up the third Toyota ShareLunker of the season to Austin angler Brett Ketchum January 29.

Zebra Mussel Test Results on North Texas Lakes Reported

ATHENS—Despite recent test results showing zebra mussel DNA to be present in several North Texas reservoirs, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) officials remain hopeful that the invasive aquatic species is still confined to Lake Texoma.

Regulation Proposals Target Spread of Exotic Species

AUSTIN – Proposed regulations under consideration by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department would enlist anglers and boaters in the fight to prevent further spread of exotic aquatic species into Texas waterways.

JFK Seagrass Proposal to Emphasize Public Education, Voluntary Protection

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today approved a staff recommendation to protect seagrass in the Laguna Madre near the John F. Kennedy Memorial Causeway in Nueces County through a voluntary education and outreach program.

Master fly-fisher to teach class at TFFC February 11

ATHENS—Expert fly-fisher Bob Cappallo of Corsicana will teach fly-fishing for beginners at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens February 11, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Toyota Texas Bass Classic Scheduled for September 28-30, 2012

CONROE—Dates for the highly-anticipated return of the Toyota Texas Bass Classic (TTBC), the world championship of professional bass fishing and country music festival, were announced today with all of the action set to begin Friday, Sept. 28. The three-day event (Sept. 28-30) will feature anglers from across all major tours and some of country music’s premier artists with event proceeds benefiting the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and its youth outdoor  programs.

11th Anniversary of Abandoned Crab Trap Removal Program Coming Up

AUSTIN — If you’re a saltwater angler and don’t like the idea of hundreds of abandoned crab traps catching and killing game fish you could have landed, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is looking for volunteers willing to help get rid of these derelict traps along the coast.

Central Texas Zebra Mussel forums scheduled for Jan. 18-19

Three forms will be held Jan. 18 and 19 in Kingsland and Marble Falls and Burnet to address the threat of invasive mussels in the Highland Lakes. The purpose of these forums is to raise awareness of potential consequences associated with zebra and quagga mussels in the Colorado River system.
