AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife will be hosting two scoping meetings in North Texas this month to get public feedback on a pair of proposed new regulations aimed at preventing the spread of exotic aquatic species in the state.

PORT ARTHUR – The Texas Department of State Health Services today advised limiting consumption of gafftopsail (gafftop) catfish from the Texas waters of Sabine Lake because of concerns about chemicals known as PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). PCBs are known to cause cancer and neurobehavioral and immunological changes in animals.

LAKE WORTH – Angler Tim McKneely just recently moved to the Fort Worth area from Central Texas. McKneely and friend Mark Alexander frequently fish from the bank from about 8:00 at night until mid-afternoon the next day. They have experienced some pretty impressive catches including one outing where the pair landed over 330 pounds of blue catfish in about 16 hours of fishing. The duo has caught plenty of blues over 10 pounds. At one point that night, they had three fish on at the same time weighing 32 lbs., 25 lbs., and 10 lbs.
TYLER — The East Texas Woods and Waters Foundation (ETWWF) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will host two special fishing events in January 2012. Two thousand rainbow trout will be stocked into The Nature Center pond to provide a free fishing opportunity for area youth and their adult fishing mentors. Event dates are January 7 and 14, 2012, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., rain or shine.
AUSTIN — As Texas approaches the winter season and temperatures drop, many anglers continue to enjoy great fishing on coastal bays. However, when temperatures on the coast are predicted to fall below 32°F for three or more days, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) executive director has the authority to close some areas to saltwater fishing until the threat from the freeze event is over.
