New Artificial Reefs, Habitat Structures Installed on Belton Lake

BELTON – Anglers have more spots to search for the perfect catch at Belton Lake thanks to some recently installed artificial reefs and habitat structures. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Waco and Forth Worth Inland Fisheries Districts partnered with multiple organizations and volunteers to complete the project which will significantly enhance the fishery.

Red Snapper Fishing Closes in State Water November 15, 2021

AUSTIN– The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will close red snapper fishing in state water November 15. In January 2022, TPWD will reopen red snapper fishing in state waters while federal water will remain closed until the summer.

Inland Fisheries Division Earns Prestigious Conservation Award from Fly Fishers International

LIVINGSTON, Mont. – Fly Fishers International has recognized the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries Division as a leader in conservation, awarding the Division with the organization’s prestigious 2021 Conservation Award. The award is bestowed upon a person, group or organization which has made extraordinary contributions to the conservation of fisheries resources that preserve the legacy of fly fishing.

Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center to Host Veteran’s Day Event

ATHENS — The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center is pleased to announce a new event to honor and support veterans. “Veterans Day at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center” will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, with free admission for veterans and their families.

Halloween at the Hatchery Returns to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Oct. 28

ATHENS – The East Texas family tradition continues October 28 when “Halloween at the Hatchery” returns to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center after being cancelled in 2020 due to the public health crisis. The annual event provides a safe place to go trick-or-treating while raising money for three local beneficiaries, The Rainbow Room, East Texas Crisis Center and the Athens High School Fishing Team.

Annual Guppy Cup Celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day the Galveston Way

GALVESTON — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Game Warden Association will be hosting the 3rd annual Cast Away Rods Guppy Cup KidFish on Saturday, September 25. The competition will run in conjunction with the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival and National Hunting and Fishing Day.
