Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center Outdoor Expo Set for Sept. 21

ATHENS – The Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) is offering visitors opportunities to learn about a wide range of outdoor skills and participate in family fun events during its annual Outdoor Expo and Bluegill Family Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21. The expo will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Revamped Mobile Apps Must Haves for Texas Hunters, Anglers

AUSTIN – When gearing up for hunting and fishing this fall, be sure to include two items from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department that won’t take up any more space and offer access to a world of resources: The Texas Outdoor Annual mobile app and the My Texas Hunt Harvest mobile app.

Drawing for Trinity River Alligator Gar Harvest Authorization Opens Aug. 15

AUSTIN – Starting Sept. 1, anglers must have special authorization through a random draw to harvest a large alligator gar from a section of the Trinity River and follow new regulations when fishing for the state’s largest and long-lived freshwater fish in public waters statewide.

Texas Hunting, Fishing Licenses on Sale Thursday, Aug 15

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding hunters and anglers that all current year Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except the year-to-date fishing license) expire the end of August, and new licenses for 2019-20 go on sale Thursday, Aug. 15.

Red Snapper Season in Federal Waters to Close Aug. 2 for Texas Private Recreational Anglers

AUSTIN- Based on current and projected landings estimates, the private recreational angler red snapper season in federal waters off the Texas coast will close at 12:01 a.m., Aug. 2, earlier than the initially projected 97-day season.

Large Numbers of Juvenile Bass Indicate Llano River Recovering From Historic Flood Event

AUSTIN – Less than a year after a major flood scoured much of the Llano River and left anglers worried about the future of the waterway’s renowned bass fishery, biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are finding evidence of a recovery.
