New Artificial Reefs To Provide Enhanced Fishing off Texas Coast

One project to create a new artificial reef and another to enhance an existing reef site are both moving closer to reality with the selection of Callan Marine LTD as contractor. Using funding from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Natural Resource Damage Assessment, both sites will deploy concrete pyramids to create artificial reefs in nearshore waters 10 miles or less from the Texas coast.

2015-16 Texas Hunting, Fishing Licenses Go on Sale Saturday

AUSTIN — Sportsmen gearing up for the upcoming fall hunting seasons are reminded to renew their licenses for 2015-16, available starting Saturday, August 15. The current year Texas hunting and fishing licenses (except year-to-date fishing licenses) will expire Aug. 31.

TPWD Graduates 23 Texas Game Wardens and State Park Police Officers

AUSTIN— After seven months of training, the 59th Texas game warden cadet class graduated today, with a new twist. This year marks the first time game wardens and state park police officers trained and graduated together in the same cadet class.

New Fishing Pier Grand Opening Aug. 11 at Lake Corpus Christi State Park

Lake Corpus Christi State Park near Mathis will host a grand opening celebration to mark the completion of its new fishing pier project. Visitors are invited to try out the new pier for free from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Rains Boost Lakes, Fish Stocking

ATHENS—Widespread rains in May and June did more than end the drought and raise lakes to levels not seen in years. Many lakes that had been scheduled for stocking contingent on significant spring rains were able to be stocked to take advantage of improved habitat.

After Floods, Boaters Reminded to help Stem Spread of Invasive Zebra Mussels

AUSTIN— Boaters in Texas are being reminded that their actions are critical to help stem the spread of invasive zebra mussels. Despite recent flooding that some feared might spread the dangerous nuisance species, experts say that boaters who “Clean, Drain and Dry” their boats, trailers and gear before traveling from one Texas waterway to another are still key to containing the costly problem.

Texas Game Wardens Wrap Up Alligator Attack Investigation

AUSTIN – Texas game wardens have completed their investigation into an alligator attack that resulted in the death of Tommie Woodard, 28, of St. Louis, Missouri. Investigators concluded that the unprecedented circumstances of the case, believed to be the first fatal alligator attack in Texas on record, warrant no further action.
