Texas Farmers’ Help Sought For Quail Conservation

AUSTIN, Texas — On Aug. 29 in Missouri, bobwhite quail supporters from Texas and other southeastern states will present a case study on a nationwide push to save quail at the White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation, one of only a handful of wildlife case studies to make the conference agenda.

Dove Hunters Get Expanded Whitewing Zone, Required Stamp

AUSTIN, Texas — Depending upon where you plan to hunt, the upcoming Texas dove season could be hit or miss, but it won’t be for a lack of birds. Those areas of the state that got hit with recent rain showers could pose a challenge, while drier environs should be promising, according to wildlife biologists with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Expo Debuts New Activities Oct. 1-2

AUSTIN, Texas — New exhibits and activities about springs, rivers, bays and beaches; wildlife conservation; Texas history at state parks; nature photography and more will debut Oct. 1-2 at America’s largest free, family-oriented festival of the outdoors. The 14th annual Texas Parks & Wildlife Expo will allow tens of thousands of visitors to try fishing, shooting, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing and more, all at no cost.

New Hunting, Fishing Licenses On Sale Aug. 15

AUSTIN, Texas — New hunting and fishing licenses for 2005-06 will be available beginning Monday, Aug. 15, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding customers to be aware of some significant changes. All current annual hunting and fishing licenses expire on Aug. 31.

Hunters Reminded About Mandatory Education, Deferals

AUSTIN, Texas — Hunter education is more than a legal requirement in Texas–statistics show it saves lives. People getting ready for fall hunting are reminded of two things: those who purchased hunter education deferrals last year will need hunter education this year, and there are hundreds of courses scheduled across Texas where they can fulfill that requirement.
