AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is encouraging hunters in need of certification to enroll soon as fall hunter education courses are filling up fast. As hunting seasons draw closer, demand for hunter education classes is expected to increase.

Deadline to Enter Big Time Texas Hunts is Oct. 15

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is reminding Texas hunters the deadline to enter this year’s Big Time Texas Hunts is Oct. 15th. Winners will be called before the end of October to give them time to make their hunting trip preparations.

South Zone Dove Hunters Get Early Opener Sept. 18

AUSTIN, Texas — Dove hunters in the state’s southern region will be enjoying an opening weekend of wingshooting without the wait, thanks TPWD Program Staff requesting through the Central Flyway Council that adjustments in federal framework allowing Texas to open the South Zone this season on Friday, nearest September 20th but not earlier than the 17th.

Texas Hunters Advised How To Get Sandhill Crane Permits

AUSTIN, Texas — Texas sandhill crane hunters are being advised to visit one of 30 Texas Parks and Wildlife Department law enforcement (game warden) offices spread across the state to obtain a free permit, or obtain a permit online or by phone, since private hunting license retailers no longer provide the permit this year.

TPW Commission Finalizes Waterfowl Seasons

FORT WORTH, Texas — For the 14th consecutive year, duck hunters in Texas will get the liberal waterfowl season with a 74-day season and six bird daily bag limit framework during the 2009-2010 general waterfowl seasons, but mottled ducks will be off the table during the first five days. The framework was finalized by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission at its Aug. 27 public meeting.
