Chronic Wasting Disease Confirmed in Lavaca County Captive White-tailed Deer; Linked to Index Herd

AUSTIN – The Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) announced that a captive white-­‐tailed deer in a Lavaca County deer breeding facility has been confirmed positive for Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). The Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in College Station detected the presence of CWD in samples submitted, and the National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa confirmed the findings today.

TPWD Now Accepting Online Applications for Drawn Hunts

AUSTIN – Hunters are encouraged to start making plans now by applying online for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Drawn Hunts. Hunters can select from more than 35 hunt categories on 95 areas throughout the state, including hunts for whitetail, mule deer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, exotics, turkey, alligator and more.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission Special Meeting Thursday on Chronic Wasting Disease

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will hold a special meeting Thursday, July 16 at 9 a.m. for the sole purpose of discussing the evolving Chronic Wasting Disease situation in Texas.
