Texans Asked to Visit State Parks as Business Partners Line up to Help with Budget Gap

AUSTIN – Some $1.4 million in donations have been raised since the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department launched a statewide appeal to help close a $4.6 million budget gap brought on by devastating wildfires, record drought and a corresponding drop in visitation.

Lesser Prairie-Chicken Aerial Survey Begins

LUBBOCK – This spring, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will collaborate with state fish and wildlife agencies from New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado, West Ecosystems, Inc., and Texas Tech University to conduct a large-scale aerial survey for lesser prairie-chicken booming grounds across the High Plains region in all five states.

AUSTIN – Today, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation board of trustees voted to donate $500,000 to Texas State Parks, hoping to encourage more donations to aid the state park system, which is facing a $4.6 million revenue shortfall caused by heat, drought, wildfires and a drop in park visitation.
