TPW Commission Delays Consideration of Devils River Land Acquisition

AUSTIN – The Conservation Committee of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission today directed state agency staff to continue exploring options to acquire land for a new state park or natural area on the Devils River while strengthening a commitment to protect the river’s sensitive resources. The move in essence delays a final vote on the project until a future commission meeting and gives the agency more time to explore alternatives in response to recent stakeholder input.

New Texas Paddling Trail to Open in Seguin

SEGUIN – The 22nd Texas Paddling Trail will open on Wednesday, Nov. 10, along a two-mile stretch of the scenic Guadalupe River. City officials and representatives of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will gather at the concrete dock in Max Starcke Park for a 5:15 p.m. ceremony dedicating the new Seguin Paddling Trail.

Record Number of Whooping Cranes Expected To Reach Texas This Fall

AUSTIN – Things are looking up for the endangered whooping crane. The bird made news two years ago when a record number of crane deaths were reported during drought conditions on the Texas coast. But according to state and federal biologists, flock numbers have rebounded, and a new record high number of cranes should start arriving on the Texas coast later this month.

TPWD Proposes Land Acquisition for New State Park on Devils River

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on Nov. 4 will consider a proposal to acquire a 17,638-acre property for a new state park on the Devils River in Val Verde County. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department leaders will hold public meetings about the proposal Oct. 20 in Del Rio and Oct. 26 in San Antonio.
