Great Texas Birding Classic Returns April 27-May 4

AUSTIN, Texas — Spring is in the air, and so are birds migrating along the Texas coast. For 12 years, the Great Texas Birding Classic has capitalized on this natural phenomenon and turned it into a healthy competition to raise funds for avian habitat conservation projects.

AUSTIN, Texas — A host of organizations working to save the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle recognized four Texas Parks and Wildlife Department employees March 27 for playing key roles in helping to recover the turtle, which nests only in Texas and Mexico.

Wildlife, Infrastructure Spared by Massive Fire on Chaparral WMA

AUSTIN, Texas — A massive wildfire that torched 95 percent of the 15,200-acre Chaparral Wildlife Management Area spared much of the wildlife on the state’s premier public hunting site, according to initial findings during aerial surveys by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists.
