Houston Toad Recovery Program Efforts Renewed at Bastrop State Park

AUSTIN — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) successfully released more than one million Houston toad eggs at Bastrop State Park in conjunction with the Houston Zoo, Amphibian and Reptile Conservancy (ARC) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) this spring.

Texas General Land Office Awards TPWD More Than $3 Million for Coastal Restoration Projects

AUSTIN- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has recently been awarded more than $3 million by the Texas General Land Office (GLO) for coastal restoration projects along the Texas Gulf Coast. GLO awarded approximately $84.6 million to 14 coastal counties through two major coastal protection programs, including several projects on TPWD lands.

Wildlife Health Alert: Texans Encouraged to Stay Vigilant for New World Screwworms

AUSTIN — On Sept. 21, Mexico’s National Service of Agro-Alimentary Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA) confirmed a positive detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in a cow in Sabinas Hidalgo, located in Nuevo León, Mexico, about 70 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border. Preliminary reports indicate the cow had been moved to a certified feedlot from a region in southern Mexico with known NWS cases.
