Planning Palo Pinto Mountains State Park, Texas
One of Texas' newest state parks is Palo Pinto Mountains State Park just a few miles down the road from Strawn. The park, which was purchased in 2011 with money from the sale of the undeveloped Eagle Mountain Lake site near Fort Worth, encompasses a little over 4000 acres in the Cross Timbers region. Planning for the park is currently underway, and it is expected that development and opening of the park are at least several years away. Here's a first look at some of the features of the park.

Battling 100 Years! Battleship Texas Century Celebration
On Aug, 1, 2020, operational control of the Battleship Texas, was transferred to the Battleship Texas Foundation. https://battleshiptexas.org/ The Battleship Texas is closed for a lengthy repair project, and no reopening date has been set. Today, she sits in La Porte at the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site and still serves her country as a living museum. A Texas size celebration honored "the Old Lady" with fireworks and music. Texas Parks and Wildlife has this report. A special exhibit on the Battleship Texas will be on display at the Bob Bullock Museum in Austin, Texas through April 21. For more information go to http://www.tpwd.texas.gov

Ancient Rock Art is Reborn at Hueco Tanks State Park, Texas
When it comes to rock art, Hueco Tanks, east of El Paso, is in a class by itself with rock art that dates back 6000 years. Unfortunately, over the years some of the pictographs have been damaged by graffiti. But now a new type of laser technology is about to turn back time.
