Paso al Solitario

paso solitario 1 small

Rock formations near the campsite.

view of desert with sign that says "Four-wheel drive required beyond this point."

Looking toward Solitario Peak.

Near the northern outer layers of the Solitario Caldera, lying close to surrounding ridges of light gray limestone rock, is the Paso al Solitario Campsite. With close examination of the plants and rocks, the explorer can find horse crippler cactus and ripple marks caused by currents preserved in the ancient rocks. The dark skies are astounding. Paso al Solitario is a great place to introduce children to the plants and animals of west Texas.
