Texas Parks & Wildlife Department owns some exemplary pieces of Texas land. These tracts are located throughout the state, and include desert, forest, Gulf coast, and other unique ecosystems.

Powderhorn Ranch

Where land meets water at Powderhorn Ranch.

The latest acquisition is the 17,351-acre Powderhorn Ranch. This property is one of the largest remaining tracts of unspoiled coastal prairie in the state. A coalition of conservation groups made this purchase possible in 2014.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation currently owns the portion of the property that will become a state park. It will transfer title to TPWD in the next few years. The remainder of the property is now a wildlife management area owned and managed by TPWD.

Sites awaiting development

TPWD plans to develop the following sites as part of the state park system:
