TPW Commission meets January 25-26

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will meet in Austin to consider a full agenda on January 25-26. The Commission will be briefed on a number of items including the statewide hunting and fishing proclamation, which will set seasons and bag limits for the 2006-2007 hunting and fishing seasons. We're also expecting a sizeable crowd to testify regarding a National Recreational Trail Grant for a motorized vehicle park in Crockett County near Ozona. The grant has widespread support from motorized vehicle users but is opposed by some neighboring landowners. The Commission is also expected to take action on a proposed Lake Houston State Park transfer to the City of Houston as well as the donation of the PAL Ranch in Hamilton County for use as a Game Warden Training Academy. The Commission will also be briefed in executive session regarding real property alternatives for Eagle Mountain Lake State Park in Tarrant County.

TPWD Annual Report mailed to legislative offices

The department's "Roadmap for the Future: Annual Report 2005" will be mailed this month to TPW commissioners, legislative offices, TPWD regional and field offices and sites and other interested parties. By Jan. 19, the report will be available as a PDF file on the agency's Web site. The 21-page document's first section reports on progress made for each goal of the Land and Water Conservation and Recreation Plan, TPWD's guiding document for ongoing operations. The Teamwork section reports on activities of each division. The report includes photos and information on this year's Employee Recognition Awards. It concludes with an Accountability Measures section representing how TPWD reports achievements to the legislature, citing statistics from 2003, 2004 and 2005 to show a three-year trend.
