TPW Commission meets April 5-6
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will meet in Austin to consider a full agenda on April 5-6. The Commission is scheduled to adopt the 2006-2007 Statewide Hunting and Fishing Proclamation. Public hearings have been held across the state to gather public input on proposed hunting and fishing rule changes.
The Commission will also be briefed on a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that will ensure meaningful conservation projects as new roads are built in Texas. The TxDOT-TPWD Mitigation agreement is being hailed as a landmark conservation measure for Texas.
Also on the agenda are several briefings of interest. Coastal Fisheries Director Larry McKinney will provide a coastal fishing forecast for this year’s fishing season and will explain what’s in store for anglers fishing in the coastal water of Texas. Inland Fisheries Director Phil Durocher will discuss fishing for common carp and how it relates to the growing urban masses in Texas.
Several land transactions will also be considered by the Commission, including a land acquisition in Hidalgo County that is connected to the World Birding Center, and a land transfer in Brown County, that is adjacent to Lake Brownwood State Park.
