New Seagrass Regulation in effect

On May 1, a new regulation to protect Redfish Bay near Rockport went into effect. The regulation prohibits the uprooting of seagrass in the Redfish Bay State Scientific Area. TPWD has launched a public education effort to make sure boaters are aware of the new requirements.

Hurricane damaged state parks are back in business

Two state parks that had been closed due to storm damage from Hurricane Rita are available for public use again. Village Creek opened on May 1 and Martin Dies, Jr. reopened over Easter weekend. Sea Rim State Park and Sabine Pass State Historic Site remain closed while repairs continue.

2005-2006 ShareLunker season closes

The 2005-2006 Budweiser ShareLunker season ended on April 30 with 32 entries, the most 13-pound plus fish caught and donated to the program in 15 years. The "lunker" bass came from lakes all over Texas, underscoring the success of TPWD fisheries management programs.
