TPW Commission meets November 1-2

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will meet in Austin to consider a full agenda on November 1-2. On Wednesday, the commission will be briefed on a number of issues, including a preview of the upcoming legislative session. They will also hear about a proposal to sell Texas Game Warden Training Academy land in Central Austin, with sale proceeds dedicated to development of a new training facility at the Police Activities League land in Hamilton County, which was donated to TPWD earlier this year. They will also hear about a land donation in Bastrop County that would add 265 acres to Bastrop State Park. Also on Wednesday, the Commission will also get a preview of staff proposals for the 2007-2008 Statewide Hunting and Fishing Proclamation. This briefing is the first step in the process to adopt changes to hunting and fishing regulations for the 2007-2008 seasons. The Commission will provide input on the proposals and staff will then come back to the Commission at the January meeting to get approval to post the proposed regulations to the Texas Register for public comment. A series of public hearings will be held across the state early next year, with final adoption of next year's seasons and bag limits and other regulatory changes to come in April.

Trout stockings means winter fishing fun for all

Beginning Dec. 1 and continuing through March, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will stock upwards of 270,000 hatchery-reared rainbow trout at more than 100 sites across the state. Many of the fish stockings will be conducted at small community fishing lakes, state park lakes and popular river tailraces offering easy angling access. TPWD has been stocking rainbow trout in small urban lakes, state park lakes and popular river tailraces each winter since the 1970s, providing Texans a simple and economical opportunity to go fishing. The trout stocking locations will be posted to the TPWD website by mid-November.
