TPW Commission Meets August 22-23

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will meet in Austin to consider a full agenda on August 22-23. On Wednesday, the Commission will be briefed on a number of items including several issues that were driven by the passage of new laws by the 80th Legislature and that will require action by the Commission on Thursday. At 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the Commission will conduct its annual public hearing, in which citizens are invited to address the commission on any topic of interest.

On Thursday August 23, the Commission is scheduled to take action on several items including funding for several grant programs administered by TPWD: Small Community grants, National Recreational Trail grants, Boating Access grants and Target Range grants. The Commission will also consider approval of the FY '08 operating and capital budgets. Several legislatively driven items will also be considered including Statewide Hunting and Fishing Proclamation rule amendments, Duck Stamp fees, and Vessel regulations. The Commission is also scheduled to take action on the 2007-2008 Migratory Game Bird proclamation. Several land transactions will also be considered and the Commission will also be briefed on the upcoming Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo. Finally, commissioners will get an update on the search for a new executive director in the executive session.

Of Note 

New Commissioners Appointed by Governor Perry

Governor Rick Perry announced three new appointments to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission on August 14, 2007. Margaret Martin from Boerne was appointed to serve the remainder of the term of Ned Holmes, who resigned to accept a gubernatorial appointment to the board of the Texas Department of Transportation. Martin's term will expire Feb. 1, 2009. Perry appointed Antonio Falcon, M.D. of Rio Grande City to replace Joseph Fitzsimons. Karen Hixon of San Antonio was selected to replace Donato Ramos. Their terms will expire on Feb. 1, 2013. All three new members are planning on attending their first commission meeting on August 22-23.
