Texas Parks and Wildlife staff continues to move forward to fully address recommendations made by the State Auditors Office (SAO) in a report released in March of 2007. Over 40,000 recorded staff hours have been committed thus far to develop new processes and management tools to improve the overall effectiveness of state park operations. The vast majority of work has been completed to shore up processes related to fiscal control, revenue management, business management, capital project management and park visitation estimation. Two of the remaining components of the audit with work still ongoing include the development of a new zero-based budget model for state parks and a private vendor study of the state park systems capital repair and development needs. The agency continues to be on track to accomplish all recommendations outlined in the SAO report.
