In compliance with the requirements of Rider 33, on July 11, TPWD submitted the Project Plan for the Dry Berthing of the Battleship TEXAS to the LBB for their review and approval to release the $25 million General Obligation Bond funding. With subsequent reviews and approvals by the Texas Public Finance Authority and the Bond Review Board, bond funds can be issued, the engineering design contract can be let and the final design begun. The overall project completion is projected to be March 2013.
Texas Game Wardens and their specialized equipment play a key role in the state’s emergency management efforts which are organized through the Governor's office. TPWD deployed dozens of game wardens equipped with boats and airboats to the Valley for Hurricane Dolly in July and to Southeast Texas for Edouard in early August. Texas State Parks play a role by providing free campsites to evacuees seeking refuge from such storms. Fortunately, both storms caused relatively minor damage to TPWD facilities.
Research surveys show that finding a place to hunt is a barrier for many people in today's Texas, which is why Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has created the Hunt Texas Online Connection, a new, free Web service that allows anyone to view hunting opportunities posted by private landowners across the state. In the first half of 2008, the department invited landowners to list hunting lease opportunities in Texas for free, including last-minute openings. Now, hunters can search more than 150 hunting opportunities by lease type, county, game animal, cost per hunter and other parameters. The service is free to both hunters and landowners (More info.).
