Field Markings
In the Keep Texas Wild magazine, Jesse Huth said he uses silhouettes, bird songs and field markings to identify birds.
What are field markings?
Field markings include colors, stripes and patterns. The pattern of the eyebrow or eye ring is an example of a field marking.
The Black-capped vireo looks like it has glasses or "spectacles," the Great kiskadee has an "eye stripe" and the Montezuma quail has face markings like a hockey mask.
