    Sept. 27, 2023 - The entrance to the park interior is washed out at Terneros Creek due to overnight flooding. Access is limited to 4WD vehicles only. The River District remains open for all visitors.

    Extreme Heat Warning

    The park is in a hot desert climate. From May to September, highs in the shade reach and may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit by 10 a.m. and may stay there past 10 p.m. Full-sun temperatures can top 130 degrees. There is little to no shade in the park.

    We recommend being off trail by 10 a.m. Spend afternoons driving the scenic River Corridor along FM 170 or touring the air-conditioned exhibits at Fort Leaton SHS or Barton Warnock Visitor Center.

    Sauceda Ranger Station

    July 24, 2023 - Sauceda Ranger Station hours vary, and limited services are available. Shower, restrooms and ice are available 24/7.

If you are traveling to the interior, you must have at least a 2WD high clearance vehicle. Vehicles with low clearance should not attempt to travel to the interior district. Please use caution.

    Jan. 1, 2022 - The Buescher State Park Lake is closed for construction. The project should be complete sometime in 2023.

    Access to the lake and lakeshore is closed, and fishing and boating are not available. Campgrounds and trails are open.

    Argentine ants have been identified in some campsites in the park. These invasive ants do not sting. Please be prepared to treat around your vehicle and camping equipment.

    The boat ramp will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 through 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, for a special event.

    The park's boat ramp and parking lot closure has been rescheduled to Oct. 16-18. The closure is for a road resurfacing project and may be extended if needed to finish the job. 

    You can launch boats at nearby ramps: St. Charles Bay or Copano Bay.

    Conserve Water

    June 26, 2023 - Due to dry conditions, please use water wisely when you visit. Bring your own water or buy bottled water at headquarters. Use the park's water sparingly for drinking, cooking, and in restrooms.

Inks Lake State Park Burnet, TX

    Algae Alert

    Aug. 18, 2023 - The LCRA has posted an alert of blue-green algae blooms at Inks Lake and Lake LBJ.  Testing has revealed high toxic concentrations within the algae.  Be water safe around algae blooms.  Read details from the LCRA.

    Road Work

    Sept. 26, 2023 - Park Road 4 adjacent to the park entrance is under construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane Mondays through Fridays. Prepare for delays if visiting during this time.

    Construction Noise

    Oct. 6, 2022 - The new headquarters building is under construction near the West Loop camping area.  Expect loud noise from heavy equipment during daylight hours after 7 a.m. through Dec. 2023.

    Sept. 3, 2023 - More bats are migrating, but due to continued drought conditions and low insect availability, the bat population at Old Tunnel is low. Bat emergences are fluctuating, and there is a possibility you will not see a bat emergence.

    There are no refunds or rain checks if you do not see bats.

    Eclipse Viewing

    July 24, 2023 - On days when the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory or warning for this area, the following trails will close from 11AM to 5PM:

    Check for heat advisories from the NWS before hiking.

    10 p.m. Nov. 29 - 8 a.m. Dec. 7, 2023: All areas past the Old West Stables are closed. The only trails open will be the Pioneer Nature Trail Loop and the CCC/Triassic trails.

    Water Alert

    June 1, 2023 - Potentially contaminated dam water was released on June 1 and flowed through the park. Please avoid this water and the creeks. We strongly advise having no contact with the water. The water is non-potable.

    We have lots of sticker burs in and around our campsites right now. Wear good shoes and be cautious with pets and children.

    North Shore Gate Locked

    Check in at the South Shore entrance (362 S. FM 2288) to get the gate code for the North Shore.

    July 15, 2023 - The parking lots near the walk-in campsites will be partially closed for amphitheater construction beginning July 17, 2023, until the end of the summer. Contact the park for details.

    Jan. 1, 2023 - Construction is underway on two improvement projects:

    • Replacement of the low-water crossing at the park's entrance.
    • Construction of a new park headquarters.

    Access to the river for tubing, paddling, fishing and swimming is available. Watch for signs or ask park headquarters about temporary river access points. River portage around construction is clearly marked.

    Campgrounds, trails and bird blinds are open and accessible.

    Expect construction noise, construction traffic on the roadways, and possible road or lane closures at the park.

    Construction

    Aug. 2, 2023 - Several buildings are undergoing roofing repairs. Expect construction noise in those areas from around 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. The project should be complete by the end of September 2023.

    Jan. 1, 2023 - Construction of a new park headquarters and Visitors Center next to the Cedar Point Camping Area is underway. Campers in Cedar Point should expect construction noise during daylight hours after 7 a.m.

    The North Woods Pavilion is closed for construction.
