How long since you’ve been to the lake? Grab your family, fishing pole and swimsuit and head for the clear blue water and striking scenery at Possum Kingdom State Park. We're just an hour west of the DFW Metroplex.
Things to Do
Possum Kingdom State Park offers fun on water and land. On water, you can swim, boat, fish, ski, scuba dive and snorkel. On land, you can camp, picnic, hike, bike, study nature and geocache.
Stay overnight in one of our air-conditioned cabins. If you’re a camper, choose one of our water and electricity sites, water-only sites, or primitive walk-in sites.
Fish for largemouth, striped and white bass; channel and blue catfish; and white crappie. The park has a boat launch, fishing pier, and fish cleaning station. You do not need a fishing license to fish from shore in a state park.
Possum Kingdom Lake has over 300 miles of shoreline and many scenic coves.

Ranger Programs
Kids: Become a Junior Ranger!
- Borrow an Explorer Pack, loaded with tools for exploring the park.
- Pick up a free Junior Ranger Activity Journal at headquarters. Complete tasks to earn a badge.
Civilian Conservation Corps: CCC Company 2888 began work here in May 1941. But plans for the park changed when the new reservoir filled unexpectedly. CCC men cleared the park area and shoreline, built campsites and picnic tables, and constructed roads until July 1942. This was the last project the CCC worked on in Texas. Area Attractions
Possum Kingdom Lake lies between three thriving small towns: Graham, Mineral Wells and Breckenridge. All three offer history and art museums, entertainment, restaurants and more.
