    Expect loud construction noise and traffic in the following areas and times:

    • An erosion control project near the cabins began in September 2023. 
    • A bridge construction project will be underway in the Copperas Creek camping area from March 1 through June 1.

    Lake Notice

    Sept. 18, 2023 - The main lake is closed to prevent erosion as plants re-establish after construction. Fishing is available at Lake Mina. 

    Special Event Closures

    The MS150 bike race will be coming through Bastrop and Buescher state parks on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Expect heavy bike traffic and possible detours. The following areas will be closed to day pass holders on this day: 

    • Bastrop: The Overlook, Lost Pines Loop trail and Post Oak Spur trail parking areas.
    • Buescher: Park Road 1C from the Lakeview campground to park headquarters and the canoe barn lake access.

    May 15, 2023 - Roadwork has begun on FM 271 between Highway 78 in Bonham and FM 68 in Gober. Expect delays, narrow lanes and uneven surfaces on the way to the park.

    Road Resurfacing Closures

    Beginning March 18, 2024, the following areas will be intermittently closed for a road resurfacing project:

    • Burr Oak water and electric sites; as well as restrooms and showers will be closed March 18 - April 7, 2024
    • Red Buckeye water and electric sites, screened shelters, primitive campsites, mini cabin, and group dining hall; as well as restrooms and dump stations in these areas will be closed April 8 - May 4, 2024.
    • Sections of Park Road 72 from the entrance to the Nature Center will be minimally impacted.

    Please obey all signs. Expect loud noise from equipment and odor from tar and asphalt. Check back or contact the park for updates.

    Park Capacity Closures

    We usually reach full capacity on weekends, school breaks, holidays and some weekdays. People without reservations are not allowed in the park when we reach capacity. To guarantee entrance, reserve passes online, or by calling the customer service center, before you visit.

    Phone Issues

    Trail Notices

    March 4, 2024 - The main trailhead for the Talala Trail is closed due to road construction. You can access the trail from Penn Farm.

    Trails close due to weather and for maintenance. Weather closures help limit trail and habitat damage. Call the park or check our Facebook page for updates before visiting.

    Visiting the Park

    We highly recommend reserving day passes in advance for weekends and holidays. If your plans change, please modify or cancel your reservation to allow someone else to visit. 

    Invasive Ants

    Argentine ants have been identified in some campsites in the park. These invasive ants do not sting. Please be prepared to treat around your vehicle and camping equipment.

    Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is working with experts to reduce the number of ants without harming the park's natural resources. Learn more about the Argentine ant

    Day Use Area Closure

    March 26, 2024 - The Bluebonnet Day Use Area and fishing pier is closed due to temporary flooding. All other areas remain open. Contact the park for updates.

    Eclipse Reservations

    Day passes for both units are sold out for the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Only people with camping reservations or day passes will be able to enter the park.

    Eclipse Closures

    The following areas will be closed due to expected high visitation during the total eclipse:

    • The entrance gate to the Tira Boat Ramp will close at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, and reopen at 6 a.m. on April 8, 2024.
    • The entrance gates to all South Sulphur day-use areas, Heron Harbor, Gulls Bluff, Sunset Cove and Honey Creek, will close at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 and reopen at 6 a.m. on April 8, 2024. Camping loop access will not be affected.
    • The entrance gate at the Doctors Creek Unit will close at 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, and reopen at 6 a.m. on April 8, 2024. Campers entering the park after hours should contact the office for the code or call (903) 395-2889.

    Reservations will be required to enter either unit on April 8, 2024.

    Trail Alert

    Trails are closed to horseback riders after rainfall. Check conditions before you come by calling the park.

    Fishing Pier Closure

    On Saturday April 20 and Sunday April 21, 2024, both fishing piers will be closed for maintenance. The shoreline around the piers will remain open.

    Area Closures

    Jan. 29, 2024 - Certain areas of the park are closed for a road resurfacing project. Observe closure signs for your safety. 

    Utility work on the Armadillo Hill Camping Loop will continue through spring 2024. The restrooms in the loop and the dump station are closed. Restrooms are available in other areas.

    Reservations Recommended

    We strongly encourage you to purchase day passes in advance for weekends, school breaks and holidays. Day passes sell out every weekend and holiday.

Mission Tejas State Park Grapeland, TX

    Mission and Campground Closure

    The Commemorative Mission and campground will be closed beginning July 1, 2024 through the end of December 2024 for improvements.

    The park will remain open for day use. The Interpretive Center, Rice Family Log Cabin, and limited hiking trails will be available. Contact the park for updates.

    Improvement Work Underway

    Nov. 30, 2023 - The park is open for day visits, only. The Interpretive Center, Rice Family Log Cabin, and some hiking trails are open.

    The campgrounds, the Commemorative Mission and certain trails are closed through July 2024 for improvements.

    Closures 

    March 25, 2024 - The following areas are closed:

    • The lower part of the park (due to flood damage)
    • The gate at the south end of park 
    • Pavilions (Rock Tabernacle, Breezeway, & Wood Tabernacle)
    • Water-only campsites

    Swimming and fishing are unavailable until flood repairs and cleanup are completed.

    Wildfire Information

    March 18, 2024 - The Panhandle wildfires were a safe distance away and did not impact the park. 

    Help us minimize the danger of wildfires:

    • Follow burn ban restrictions (no charcoal or wood fires; don't leave propane grills unattended; be cautious during high winds)
    • Avoid parking in tall or dry grass
    • Make sure chains and other metal parts aren't dragging from your vehicle or trailer.

    Jan. 22, 2021 - The park is closed to all public access as road construction has begun. Check back for updates.

    Day passes are sold out for the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Only people with camping reservations or day passes will be able to enter the park.

    Reservations Recommended

    Guarantee entrance by making reservations for day passes or campsites before visiting on weekends, school breaks and holidays. Permits often sell out for these busy times.

    Closures

    • Campsites with electricity and water will be closed April 1 through Dec. 31, 2024, due to a wastewater treatment plant project.
    • Feb. 1, 2022 - The North Loop Equestrian Trail and Duck Pond are closed.

    Restroom Closure

    March 13, 2024 - The Bathhouse restroom in the Chapparal camping loop is closed. Portable restrooms are available outside the restroom and showers are still open in other areas of the park.

    Trail Closures

    Feb. 20, 2024 - The Greenbelt 380 access and some trails south of the overlook are closed due to flooding. These closures include the Clear Creek Loop and Cottonwood Crossing trails. 

    Firewood Quarantine

    July 7, 2022 - This county is under a quarantine to prevent the spread of the emerald ash borer to other areas of the state. This means movement of firewood is restricted. 

    Please buy firewood where you burn it to prevent the spread of diseases and pests.

San Angelo State Park San Angelo, TX

    Dump Station Closure

    Feb. 6, 2024 - The Bald Eagle Campground Dump Station is closed for maintenance. The dump station in the North Concho Equestrian Campground as well as one on the south side of the park in the Red Arroyo Campground are open.

    Boat Ramp Notice

    March 22, 2023 - The lake is too low to allow boat launches from the boat ramp. Kayaks and canoes can still be launched from the ramp. 

    Sticker Bur Alert

    We have lots of sticker burs in and around our campsites right now. Wear good shoes and be cautious with pets and children.

    North Shore Gate Locked

    Check in at the South Shore entrance (362 S. FM 2288) to get the gate code for the North Shore.

    Eclipse Reservations

    Day passes are sold out for the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. Only people with camping reservations or day passes will be able to enter the park.

    Park headquarters will be open until 7 p.m. on April 7, 2024 for late arrivals.

    Planned Power Outage

    A power outage is planned on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

    Construction Notices

    Feb. 5, 2024 - Campgrounds, trails and bird blinds are open and accessible. 

    • The parking lots near the walk-in campsites are partially closed for amphitheater construction.
    • Construction continues on a replacement of the low-water crossing at the park's entrance. Access to the river for tubing, paddling, fishing and swimming is available. Watch for signs or ask park headquarters about temporary river access points. River portage around construction is clearly marked.
    • Expect construction noise, construction traffic on the roadways, and possible road or lane closures at the park.

    Jan. 1, 2023 - Construction of a new park headquarters and Visitors Center next to the Cedar Point Camping Area is underway. Campers in Cedar Point should expect construction noise during daylight hours after 7 a.m.

    The main wooden bridge, primitive camping and cabins will be closed Monday, March 25 through Wednesday, March 27, 2024 for bridge repairs. Contact the park or check back for closures.
