Applications Now Being Accepted for Texas Game Warden Academy

AUSTIN — Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is seeking qualified applicants for the 56th Game Warden Cadet Class. Applications will be accepted through May 31.

More than 500 people applied for the 46 positions in the current cadet class that is graduating in July.

Applicants must be 21 years old on or before entering the academy and have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. The degree requirement must be met prior to Sep.1. Applicants must turn in a State of Texas Application for Employment, an Applicant EEO Data Form a copy of their college transcript, an Authorization and Consent for Disclosure of Criminal History and an Information Veteran’s Preference Survey if applicable.

To be accepted, applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements and successfully complete a regional interview, an extensive background investigation and a physical agility test. Applicants must be able to do 21 sit-ups in one minute, 13 push-ups in one minute, run 1.5 miles in no more than 21 minutes and 36 seconds and run 300 meters in no more than 109 seconds. They must also pass a handgun stability test and a swim test. Each step of the application process must be successfully completed before advancing to the next step.

After graduation, the new game wardens will be assigned to vacant stations throughout Texas with the responsibility of protecting the state’s natural resources. Game wardens also protect lives by enforcing the Water Safety Act and conducting standard peace officer duties.

All documents must be turned into the Game Warden Training Center, any law enforcement division regional office or the Human Resources Division of TPWD.
