    July 5, 2020 - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has learned that an individual at this park is presumed positive for COVID-19.  At this time, out of an abundance of caution, the park will close and will reopen for overnight and day-use reservations on July 17. Guests with overnight and day-use reservations through July 16 will be notified about refunds and reservation transfer options.

    June 26, 2020 -These areas are closed due to flood damage:

    • The entire day use area, near the Lakeview camping loop, is closed until 2022 at the earliest. This closure includes the North Boat Ramp, beach swim area, area restrooms,  and the jetty portion of Loop J.
    • Various shoreline campsites
    • Pavilion
    • Some camping areas
    • J-loop day-use area (near Penn Farm)
    • The Marina is permanently closed and bait isn't for sale in the park.

    Critical Water Shortage

    Due to ongoing drought, potable water is extremely limited. Restrooms may be closed, but portable toilets will be made available. While drinking water is available, please bring your own to help us conserve water during your next visit.

    Trail Closures

    May 18, 2020 - A portion of the Loop Trail is closed due to damage from flooding. The trail has been rerouted onto the Turkey Pass Trail.

    Elevated trails, including the Summit Trail, will close during wet weather.

    Feb. 1, 2020 – Newman's Bottom parking area is now open. The road to the parking area has changed; the single-lane road narrows in places. Drive slowly and be courteous to other users. Trailers are NOT allowed at the Newman Parking area. Please park only in designated areas.

    Trailway Reopens to Horses

    June 23, 2020 – The Lake Somerville SP Trailway is again open for hikers, bikers and horseback riders. The area around Flag Pond, CR 125, CR 140 and the Sandhill are open to all users.

    The Trailway is open 2 miles out from the Nails Creek side.

    Equestrians can only access the Trailway from Nails Creek, as repairs continue at Birch Creek. You must possess a current negative Coggins test for your horse. Equestrian parking for the Trailway is permitted at the access gate on CR 125 and CR 140.

    June 27, 2020 - The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has learned that an individual at San Angelo State Park has tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, out of an abundance of caution, the park will close and will reopen for overnight and day use reservations on July 8, 2020.  Guests with overnight and day-use reservations through July 7, 2020, will be notified about refunds and reservation transfer options.
