The Target Range Grant Program provides funding for the planning, development and construction of target ranges that provide recreational access to the general public. The Target Range Grant Program uses a two-phase grant approach; Phase I – Planning Grant and Phase II – Construction Grant. The Phase II – Construction Grant will not be awarded until all activities in the Phase I – Planning Grant are complete. Target Range Grant awards reimburse up to 90% of eligible project costs and require 10% cost share from the recipient.
Who we fund
Commercial entities, tax-exempt organizations, cities, counties, river authorities, municipal utility districts and other political subdivisions of the State of Texas may apply.
What We Fund
Target Range Grants fund the planning and construction of firearm, archery and air gun ranges for recreational use by the general public. Eligible activities may include developing the plans/specifications, acquiring the environmental/cultural permits and other professional services associated with the planning of eligible features of the proposed construction project that will be used by the general public. Construction Grant activities are those necessary to build or enhance a target range.
When We Fund
Applications for the Target Range Grant Program’s Phase I – Planning Grants open each fall, have a deadline of February 1st and are awarded based on funding availability, competitiveness and provision of recreational, general public access. Phase II- Construction Grants are only opened to those projects that successfully complete all Phase I – Planning Grant activities. Applications will only be accepted through the Recreation Grants Online Grant Management System. Paper applications will not be accepted
Grant Funding
Awardees take on the costs to develop, construct and submit eligible receipts for reimbursement. A maximum of 90% of eligible costs incurred on the project are admissible for reimbursement.
