Learn the art of gyotaku (fish printing) and take one of these unique nature prints home with you!

To celebrate World Wetlands Day, we're diving into an artform you may have never tried before!

Gyotaku is the Japanese art of pressing paper to a fish carefully painted with ink, resulting in a print as close to "lifelike" as you can get! Originally used by fishermen to record their catches, we'll use it to explore the fish of Balmorhea and how paying close attention to our wetlands benefits us all.

In this program, you'll make your own print of a colorful (rubber) fish and see some of the aquatic creatures that make this park special!

  • Cost: Free with park entry
  • Meet: At the double-arched shaded area between the two bathhouses in the pool area
  • Bring: Clothes that can get stained or an apron
