Take a ranger-led walk through the park to learn the basics of birding!

How do you teach yourself to be a birder?

Taking up birding as a hobby can be confusing and overwhelming. Nobody knows this better than Balmorhea's Ranger Em- a novice birder herself.

As we take a slow walk around the park, you'll acquire some beginner birding skills and learn methods to identify and study birds on your own!

• Cost: Free with park entry
• Meet: At the double-arched shaded area between the pool area bathhouses
• Difficulty: Less than 1 mile of distance, mostly flat (please let the ranger know if you require any accommodations, route and activities are easily modifiable for accessibility)
• Bring: Binoculars, walking shoes, and any field guides you would like to practice with. If you do not own a pair of binoculars, we will have a few pairs available to borrow
