Find Your Trail: Geology & Archeology Mountain Bike Tour

🎉 Join an archeologist and geologist on a ride to explore the natural and cultural history of lower Fresno Canyon!

Centennial logoThis program is part of our official Find Your Trail event. 

Visitors will Ride the Fresno Divide Trail and portions of the Contrabando Dome Loop. There will be numerous stops to discuss the geology and archeology of the area.

When: Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023 from 9 AM to 3 PM.  

Where: Meet at West Contrabando Trailhead. Located on FM 170 (River Road) about 7 miles from Barton Warnock Visitor Center and 40 miles from Fort Leaton State Historic Site. 

Bring: Mountain bike, appropriate gear, plenty of water, a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, and snacks.

Total Distance: 10 miles, with options to shorten or lengthen your ride.

Trip Leaders: Kevin Urbanczyk, Geology Professor at Sul Ross State University and Tim Gibbs, Texas Parks and Wildlife Archeologist at Big Bend Ranch State Park.
