#OptOutside! Instead of taking on Black Friday shopping, spend a relaxing time outdoors on a 3.5 mile ranger led hike at Bastrop State Park!

#Optoutside on Black Friday and take a ranger-led 3.5 mile hike through areas of the park not often seen by the
public! We’ll discuss the history of the park and how we manage our special natural resources along the way.

Things to know for this hike:

1. Registration is required.
2.
Pets are not allowed on this hike.
3. This is an Adults Only hike. Adults 17 and older only.
4. High Clearance vehicles are needed for the parking area.
5. There are no restrooms at the meeting location nor at the hiking area. Use the restroom before the meeting time.
6. Everything that is packed in must be packed out. Including toilet paper and #2's should you need to go during the hike. Bring your own toilet paper a zip-lock bag and trash bag to carry your waste out in.
7. Bring at least 4- 16oz bottled water per person. There is no potable water during the hike.
8. Wear closed toe shoes that can go through an inch of water at a crossing.
9. There is one section that we will cross twice that has uneven steps that are hard to see and manage through tall brush. All hikers must be in good shape to manage this and a 3.5 mile hike.
10. We will stop at a nice picnic spot to eat lunch for 15 to 30 minutes depending on how fast the group is moving so bring a sack lunch.
11. This hike is weather dependent. Should it rain several days before the hike or morning of the hike this program might get canceled. There is more likelihood of vehicles getting stuck in the parking area after rains.

Bring: Backpack for your waters, lunch and other supplies. Binoculars for wildlife spotting, wear layers as it might be cold for some in the morning but will warm up along the hike and in the sun. Wear sun protection. Bring bottled water, sack lunch/snacks, and wear closed toe shoes.

Registration is required for this guided hike as there are limited parking spots available. Please email madalyn.miller@tpwd.texas.gov to sign up. Include how many members will be in your party and their ages.

Hike Difficulty: Easy along some areas and moderate at certain points. We will be moving quickly at times.  Uneven terrain, hiking through tall brush on uneven ground with steep steps, one stream crossed twice, and some elevation change. Approximately a 3.5 mile hike.

Registration Required: email  madalyn.miller@tpwd.texas.gov.

Special guided hike is free after park entrance fees are paid. $5 per adult.
