Tipi Talk and Demonstration

Learn how a Tipi is traditionally set up and participate hands on helping during the process!

Blue Star Church follows the teachings of the Lakota people who are part of the Sioux Nation and regularly practice traditional ceremonies that uphold the Lakota culture.

Join us to learn from the elders and members on their traditional process for setting up a tipi. They'll explain each step of the process and encourage visitors to join in on helping set up the tipi.

Meet at the Playfield next to the Historic Golf Shelter.

Bring: Bottled water, folding camp chair for comfortable seating. Wear sun protection since there is no shade on the playfield.

Program starts at 10am and may go to 12pm. Come and go at anytime but we encourage visitors to stay for the entire set up process.

From 12 to 12:30pm members will be singing traditional Sundance songs on their Sundance drums in the tipi.

From 12:30 to 1pm visitors can participate in helping and learning the traditional process of taking down the tipi.

Program is free after park entrance fee is paid. Park entrance fee is $5 per adult. Children 12 and under are free.
Park entrance is free with the Texas State Parks pass.
