Have you ever been interested in archery for fun and recreation but weren't sure where to start? Would you like to dip your toe into the world of hunting in a safe and educational environment? Are you a complete beginner or are you a veteran archer with years of experience? Then Brazos Bend has something in store for you that you won’t want to miss!

Brazos Bend State Park and Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Community Archery Program are hosting an event on February 24th where the community can come out and explore bowhunting!

This family-friendly, all-ages event offers seasoned archers, beginners, and those who are just gaining an interest in the sport of archery and bowhunting the opportunity to hone their skills, further their knowledge, and gain an understanding of what it takes to be a successful archer while spending time outdoors.

This event will feature two subevents.

            The Workshop:

After paying the park entry fee ($7 per person 13 years and older), this archery workshop is free to attend between 9AM to 1PM for all-ages. Archery equipment will be provided, so there is no need to bring your own gear.

This workshop will focus on the basics of archery skills, shooting 3D targets, learning animal anatomy and shot placement, an animal processing demonstration (including skinning, quartering, and butchering), talks about preparation and cooking of game, display and discussion of archery gear, and activities for youth attendants.

            The Tournament:

Get ready to test your skills! You’ll get your chance at this free archery tournament that will directly follow the archery workshop. Registration for the archery tournament is limited and will begin at 1:15PM. The tournament will begin at 2:15PM.

            What you should bring:

  • $7 per person (entry fee)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Close-toed shoes
  • A hat
  • Sunscreen

So, what are you waiting for? Don’t miss out on the chance to learn these valuable skills and have fun doing it in beautiful Brazos Bend State Park! We’ll see you then.
