Join Texas Master Naturalists Constance Weaver and Stephen Bishop and examine examples of the many uses of native plants by the First Peoples.

The First People of Enchanted Rock lived here for thousands of years. How did they use the many useful plants in the area?

Come learn about the trees, vines, shrubs and many other important plants and why these are protected today in the State Natural Area.

Join Texas Master Naturalists Constance Weaver and Stephen Bishop and examine examples of the many uses of native plants by the First Peoples:

  • Cordage making from plant fiber
  • Mats and coil baskets
  • Friction fire technology
  • Food preparation
  • Hafting stone tools

This program includes a demonstration of basic cordage making using plants sourced outside the park on private lands.

Meet: In the Day-Use Area (near Kona Ice)

This event is free with the purchase of a day pass or overnight camping permit. These can be reserved at TexasStateParks.ReserveAmerica.com. Adults 13+ are $8/person; children 12 and younger are free.
