A guided hike learning about the sweet, and sometimes vexing properties of the honey mesquite trees as well as the natural medicinal properties of the creosote bush.

Branch out your botanical knowledge with an informative hike highlighting the versatility of the Honey Mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa) tree in West Texas. From iconic BBQ flavor to its reputation as a stubborn pasture weed, there is a lot to be learned from this hearty plant. Then check out the other woody shrub called the Creosote bush (Larrea tridentata), which has many anti-inflammatory medicinal properties as well.

What to expect: 1-mile slow-paced hike around the Hoodoos trail. Slight hills and varying textured terrain. Dogs allowed but must comply with our pet policy.

When: Saturday, Friday, November 21, 2024, from 10 AM-12 PM

Where: Hoodoos Trailhead

Bring: Water bottle, a hat, and any cold-weather clothing you need to stay warm.  Friday, close-toed shoes are recommended for this trail. 

Cost: Adults 13 and older, $5; Children age 12 and under, free admission. Park admission is free with a Texas Parks Pass.
